To blog, or not to blog, that is the question.
Updated: Sep 30
I was asked why I have a blog and what I’m trying to achieve with it. To be honest, I couldn’t answer that question. At least not at that very moment.
Let’s move back to a time long before my blog was born.
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I made up stories. Most of my work never saw the light of day. Never leaving the premises of my mind or my room. When I was older, I published a few of my short stories in Germany, but only on other authors’ websites.
First, when I started writing my debut novel in 2023, I did so with the intent to publish a book. This time it was different. I wanted my story to leave its nest and fly.
As professional publishing was uncharted territory for me, I did a lot of research, read books and online material and attended online courses.
One subject, repeated numerous times, highlighted the need for those who wanted to publish a book to have a website and, with it, a blog.
Most of the advice was around making yourself known, boosting SEO and website traffic, increasing sales, creating social media content, and converting visitors to readers.
All those reasons make sense. However, I have to confess, while I’m sitting here at my desk, I have another, an ulterior motive.
I want to reach out and meet people, talk with them, converse ideas and inspire others to take a leap into THEIR uncharted territory.
So here's my answer.
I will continue to write my blog. One or two a week, and each time, I will choose a different topic. At the beginning, it might likely be a selfish one where I hope to get replies from others on an issue I am facing with my writing or publishing. However, once my novel is out in the world, I would like to focus more on others. More on you. Regardless of whether you are a reader, an indie author or simply a dreamer. I love all three and many more.
Therefore, if you have an idea for a blog post, don’t be shy. If it fits with what I want to achieve with my ulterior motive, I’ll go for it.
I hope I can explore many uncharted places with you.
Happy Monday,
Diana
